Windows Vista
Vista is well named - it's
a huge OS ! Lots of changes under the hood, plenty of
visible changes as well. As a result, don't even
consider it on anything less than a dual core machine
with at least 1Gb preferably 2Gb ram. Once you get there
though you will never go back to XP. These might sound
like heady requirements but the truth is it's difficult
to buy a laptop/workstation with anything less these
days.
The bad news is that on
older hardware (> 1yr) Vista is not such a good choice.
It wont so much as run but walk.
It's difficult to think of
a compelling business case to upgrade a network of
Windows XP workstations. This is the big problem
Microsoft face. For the gamer community and home user,
upgrading to Vista is a much easier decision.
Finally, for those apps
that wont yet run in Vista consider running them in a
Virtual PC 2007 (a free download from Microsoft)
environment with Windows XP as the Guest OS .
This works very well
and is exactly what we do here at Konnexion to support
eg Intuit Quickbooks.
Contact Konnexion
to discuss whether or not Vista is right for your
company.
