Virtual Technologies
Server virtualisation allows you to consolidate
your server hardware into one or more physical
servers running virtual server software. This brings
tremendous advantages in terms of system deployment
& recoverability, power consumption, heat reduction
to name a few - oh and cost !
As an example, Konnexion have installed a Dell
Poweredge 1900, dual Xeon, 12Gb ram running Windows 2003
Server X64 R2. The physical hardware (Host) is running
Exchange 2007 (Exchange 2007 requires a 64bit OS &
hardware) and is a member server in the konnexion.local
Active Directory domain.
With Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 Enterprise R2
installed we are able to install 4 Guest operating
systems as follows ..
Server1 - Trend Micro Officescan & Interscan
Viruswall
Server2 - System Centre Essentials (RC)
Server3 - Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server
2007 (MOSS2007). The SQL2005 database for MOSS2007 is
hosted on physical hardware (the DC)
Workstation1 - Running a legacy OS & applications not
yet compatible with Vista - Windows XP Professional,
Intuit QuickBooks & Ameol offline reader for CIX.
So, to summarise, in one physical server we have the
equivalent of 5 computers. All servers/workstations are
visible on the network and can be accessed using
Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)
Please contact Konnexion
to discuss your Virtual Server requirements or see the
products in action.
